In grades 1-5, the student would be assessed using an examination by a TEA-approved provider. The examination would be based on the grade level the student requests to skip.

The credit by examination would be administered in a proctored setting on our elementary campus.

Each core content area, Reading Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies, would be assessed.

For grades 1-5, TAC §74.24(b)(2) states that a student must be accelerated one grade if the student meets the following requirements:

The student scores 80% on a criterion-referenced test for the grade level he or she requests to skip in each of the following areas: language arts and reading, mathematics, science, and social studies;

A school district representative recommends that the student be accelerated;

The student's parent or guardian gives written approval for the acceleration.
In grades 6-12, a student in grade 6 or above is eligible to earn course credit with:
- A passing score of at least 80 on an examination approved by the board; or
- A scaled score of 50 or higher on an examination administered through the College Level Examination Program (CLEP); or
- A score of 3 or higher on an AP examination, as applicable.
A student may take an examination to earn high school course credit no more than twice. If a student fails to achieve the designated score on the applicable exam before the beginning of the school year, the student would need to enroll in the course according to the school’s high school sequence, the student must complete the course.
