Honors/OnRamps/Advanced Placement/Dual Credit Program:
At the high school level, Honors courses give students the opportunity to practice skills that enable them to be successful in On Ramps, Advanced Placement (AP), and Dual Credit courses. Honors builds the foundation for success not only in the On Ramps, AP, and Dual Credit program, but also for success in college coursework.
These programs provide rigorous coursework for the above average, advanced, as well as the gifted and talented student. Advanced courses are capstone courses that not only challenge students with the most progressive curriculum and instruction at the high school level; they also provide the opportunity for students to receive college credit for their efforts. Since these courses are aligned with The College Board, they offer the most solid foundation for students desiring to go to college.
Successful Honors/On Ramps/AP/Dual Credit Students: Honors/On Ramps/AP/Dual Credit courses are academically advanced courses designed to challenge motivated students. The courses will require significantly more work outside of class than on-grade-level courses due to their rigorous content. Sanger High School Honors/On Ramps/AP/Dual Credit courses are open to any student wishing to enroll. In order to assist with placement decisions, the following list contains characteristics of students who typically experience success in these courses: 1. Strong work ethic 2. Ability to learn concepts quickly 3. Ability to work above grade level 4. Self-motivated, responsible and organized 5. Typical test scores > 90 (common assessments, benchmarks, STAAR) To be successful in Honors/On Ramps/AP/Dual Credit courses, students must keep the following standards: 1. Complete and turn in assignments on time 2. Maintain a high level of attendance 3. Turn in make-up work promptly following any absence
Advanced Placement Courses (AP)
The AP exam will be available through the College Board upon completion of the required material. Students who choose to take the AP exam will be required to register for the exam by the first month of when the class begins and will be required to pay for the exam in advance. The cost for each exam is based on CollegeBoard and is subject to change each year. The average cost for a student is around $100, however those on
Free/Reduced lunch is around $56.00. The deadline for registration and payment is set by CollegeBoard in alignment with their order deadline.
All AP examinations are given in May. Results are sent to the colleges of the student’s choice, which may grant up to twelve hours of college credit, advanced placement, or both.Placement and credit are granted by institutions in accordance with their own policies.

Earning Credit When a student earns and accepts credit for an OnRamps course, the grade will appear on the student's university transcript. A letter grade of D- or better is considered passing OnRamps college credit earned for a letter grade of C- or above for courses with a Core Curriculum designation are required by law to transfer to any public higher education institution in the state of Texas. These are noted in the Texas Core Code column in the below table. Most OnRamps courses have Texas Common Course Numbering System (TCCNS) equivalency numbers approved by The University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin). In order to determine how OnRamps courses will transfer, if they will apply to a major or degree program, and if the grade will factor into the GPA, students must contact the higher education institution they plan to attend.Dual Credit
The Dual Credit Program allows students to earn credit for high school while also earning college credit at North Central Texas College (NCTC). Students may register for pre-approved college courses taught at the high school or at NCTC college campus. Each student must meet NCTC admission requirements in order to register for classes. The admission and enrollment process for Sanger High School can begin in the spring of a student’s freshman year. To complete the process or to consider whether you are a good fit for dual credit and to you should complete the following: I. Qualify with GPA requirements: a. 80+ for Academic classes b. 70+ for CTE classes c. Requirements are contingent on NCTC program requirements II. Pass the required portion(s) of the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) Exam for selected courses. III. Continue to pass all required Texas state testing mandated by HB 5. IV. Complete application and registration according to timeline: a. Fall semester applications must be submitted before Spring Break and registration before mid of April. b. Spring semester applications must be submitted mid October and registration before the Thanksgiving break. c. Exact dates will be provided within the first month of each semester.
- Caution: While dual credit courses will earn university credit and will be recorded on a formal transcript, the transferability of courses to another university rests solely with the accepting institution. Students should consult the admissions officers of the appropriate institution for information regarding the transfer of credits. Dual Credit
Core Complete The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, and the Undergraduate Education Advisory Committee, designed a 42 semester credit hour core curriculum for all undergraduate students in Texas public higher education institutions. The purpose of the core curriculum is to ensure the Texas undergraduate students enrolled in public institutions of higher education will develop the essential knowledge and skills they need in order to be successful in college, in a career, in their communities and in life. Students seeking to earn Core Complete at Sanger High School will need to enroll in both OnRamps and NCTC dual credit courses. Refer to the counselors for a core complete checklist.

***Students interested in the Firefighter or EMT program will also need to complete an application with LaGrone Academy. There is also a required parent meeting, who will provide all the additional requirements and information needed.
