Welcome :))

I am a teacher of the visually impaired (VI) and orientation and mobility specialist (O&M) with Denton County Special Education Coop (DCESC)

My family and I live in Corinth, TX. My husband Robert works in the oil industry as a landman and repairs IPhone's on the side. My daughter Lexie is a junior at Guyer High School in Denton. She is a competitive cheerleader at Spirit of Texas and a varsity cheerleader at Guyer, she has big dreams of cheering on the college level. My son Tristan is a 6th grader at Crownover Middle School. He loves the sport of ice hockey and spends his time in Grapevine playing with the Ice Jets.

I have been a VI/O&M teacher for 20 years with my last 17 years being with DCSEC. I graduated college at Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, TX. My major is hearing impaired with a double emdorsement in VI and O&M.

A little bit about my teaching style...
The state of Texas has adopted the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) as one of the main guidelines for working with students with a visual impairment. The purpose of the curriculum is to provide learning experiences outside of the realm of the core classes at school that are specialized for students with a visual impairment.

The 8 areas of the ECC include... assistive technology, career education and transition, independent living skills, O&M, recreation and leisure skills, self determination, social interaction skills and visual efficiency skills. As many of these areas are touched on during the standard school day many more are addressed on community based instruction (CBI) trips as well as short program visits to the Texas School for the Blind. We are very pleased that we are able to meet our student needs with our outstanding CBI programming that takes place for our students. First hand experience in the community is the most efficeient way to reach the student goals.

Please visit www.tsbvi.edu for short term and summer programming as well as a wealth of information and one of the best resources out there for parents, teachers and students to access.

I am very excited for the opportunity to work with each and every one of my students. I take pride in working with all families and coming up with the best program for every child. I appreciate all opportunities with learning from each and every child.

Please feel free to contact me at any time with any question, concerns, or comments. I appreciate all the input I can get to help move everyone forward to reach all dreams and expectations for each child I work with.

Thank you,
Janet Brewer
